Features

Here's a closer look at what MailPorter does and how we keep your data secure.

Security and privacy

We designed MailPorter with the principle that you shouldn't have to sacrifice privacy for convenience.

Write-only Gmail access

When you connect your Google account, we only ask for permission to insert emails and manage labels. We cannot read your existing emails, search your inbox, or delete anything. You can verify exactly what permissions we have by checking your Google Account settings at any time.

Encrypted credentials

Your mail server password is encrypted using AES-256 before we store it. For Gmail, we use OAuth authentication, which means we never see or store your Google password at all - Google handles that part directly.

Direct API import

Unlike email forwarding, which routes messages through relay servers (and can cause spam filter issues or modify headers), MailPorter imports emails directly through the Gmail API. The emails arrive in your inbox exactly as they were on the original server.

Independent security audit

MailPorter has been independently assessed by TAC Security under the CASA (Cloud Application Security Assessment) Tier 2 requirements, covering authentication, data handling, network security, and vulnerability management.

European Union flag
GDPR compliant, built in Europe

MailPorter is built and hosted in Europe with full GDPR compliance. We don't store email content, collect only the minimum data necessary, and you can request data export or deletion at any time.

How it works

MailPorter connects to your existing mail server and brings your emails into Gmail automatically.

Works with any mail server

If your email provider supports POP3 or IMAP, MailPorter can connect to it. That includes the big providers like Yahoo, Outlook, and AOL, as well as corporate Exchange servers, cPanel hosting, and self-hosted mail servers.

Automatic synchronization

Once you set up a sync job, MailPorter handles everything automatically. Free accounts sync every 30 minutes. Upgrade pack users get realtime imports or 5-minute polling, plus on-demand sync whenever you want.

Realtime imports via IMAP IDLE

With an upgrade pack, IMAP sync jobs use IMAP IDLE for instant delivery - emails arrive in Gmail within seconds of landing on your source server. If your server doesn't support IDLE, we automatically fall back to every 5 minutes.

Gmail labels

You can configure each sync job to apply specific Gmail labels to the emails it imports. This makes it easy to filter and organize messages from different sources, or to keep imported emails separate from your regular mail.

Under the hood

A few more technical details for those who want to know exactly what they're getting:

  • Secure connections using SSL/TLS or STARTTLS
  • Automatic duplicate detection based on Message-ID
  • Realtime imports via IMAP IDLE, or every 5 minutes as fallback (upgrade pack)
  • Post-import options: leave emails on server, mark as read, or delete
  • Real-time progress tracking so you can see what's happening
  • Detailed logs for troubleshooting if something goes wrong

Compatible with most email providers

If your email service supports POP3 or IMAP (which most do), MailPorter should work with it. Here are some of the providers people commonly use:
